 Indifference

Nothing's more telling than a strong defense
Nothing's louder than indifference
In the end the most terrifying thing
Is just the silence of nothing

Nothing's louder than indifference

Humiliation cannot be apathy
Embarrassment meant someone did see
No need to fear cackles or mocking stares
To laugh they'd have to know you're there

They don't know you're there
They don't know you're there
Nothing's louder than indifference

For someone to think you're a foolish disgrace
They'd at least think of you in the first place
It's more likely that no one ever will care
They don't even know you're there

You tell yourself that you won't pay it no mind
You seek and you hope someone will find
But after those years can you justify cost
Of all of that energy lost

They don't know you're there
They don't know you're there
Nothing's louder than indifference
Nothing's louder than indifference

In the long run, having people laugh at and mock your art is far less likely than people simply ignoring it. Brutal criticism is at least attention. The sadness of the silence of nothing is often the reward for our labor. These are the forgotten songs.
