Gold Beneath the Dust
Alternate version with drum machine

This is an aggressive, angry song about someone whose life experiences have left them shattered. It mostly focuses on the person's current shattered state and recent failures. However, he is haunted by earlier experiences related to a place to which he constantly returns.

Christian plays drums on this and the power and aggression are there but the quality of the recording is poor. I rerecorded with a drum machine for Gold Beneath the Dust, but the second version doesn't have much energy and should have been faster. This song would lend itself well to using distorted guitars and heavier drums. Someday I may record it in a heavy form.

Lost another dream
shattered by the truth.
I would have to go
didn't want to move.
I went back to the place
where I'd spent that night.

Lost another job
couldn't hold it down.
They told me to go
didn't want to move.
I left for the place
where I'd spent that night.

Lost another chance.
I just let it pass.
It would make me go
but I couldn't move
too far from the place
where I'd spent that night.

Lost another girl
Fickle as them all.
She wanted me to go
but I couldn't move.
She sent me to the place
where I'd spent that night.

I used to dream.
I was a fool.
Why even try?
Don't take a chance you'll fall.
All those years
gave it my all.
End up with nothing.
Why even try?

Lost another hope
now I've less to hold.
It just seemed to go
didn't try to move.
I search at the place
where I'd spent that night.

Lost another love
doesn't mean too much.
Passions seem to go
when you never move.
I bury at the place
where I'd spent that night.

I used to dream
back in my youth.
when the future was
spread before my eyes.
And then I failed.
Now I'm alone
a crippled man
who never moves at all.

Lost another day
wasted like them all.
Saw the minutes go
didn't try to move
staring at the place
where I'd spent that night.

Lost another friend
watched him slip away.
And as he turned to go
I didn't try to move.
I drove up to the place
where I'd spent that night.

I used to dream.
I used to try.
I used to laugh.
I used to see the world.
And then I fell
didn't get up
a crippled man
who never moves at all.

I used to dream.
I was a fool.
Why even try?
Don't take a chance you'll fall.
All those years
gave it my all.
End up with nothing.
Why even try?

I used to dream
back in my youth.
when the future was
spread before my eyes.
And then I failed.
Now I'm alone
a crippled man
who never moves at all.
